Collaboration between Austrian Manfred Honeck and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra was frequent and happy during the late 1990s, but when Honeck was appointed principal conductor in Stockholm and then Pittsburgh, his guest appearances naturally became less frequent.

Orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra all want a piece of him. Now he finally returns to Gothenburg for a long-awaited guest performance with the two final and fateful symphonies by Mozart and Tchaikovsky respectively. In between, Alfred Schnittke’s playful and knowing pastiche of Mozart and Schubert will be performed.
