The games that put Swedish chamber music on the European map.

Stim has announced a composition competition in collaboration with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, chamber ensemble Gageego! and the Swedish Composers Association. The focus of the games is chamber music, and winners will be selected in three different categories.

The prize amount is SEK 50,000 in each category and the winners will receive their contributions under festive forms in the Stenhammarsalen in the Gothenburg Concert Hall by ensemble Gageego! on October 10, 2020. Thereafter, the three winning works will be picked up by the European top ensembles ensemble recherche (Freiburg), L’Instant Donné (Paris), Hebrides Ensemble (Edinburgh) and Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen.

The overall theme of the games is:

  • The Art of Conversation.

The contestants can participate in one or more of the following three categories:

  • Chambre separé, for solo pieces, durata appr 10 min
  • Thin walls – talk to the neighbour, for duo or trio, durata appr 10 min
  • A crowd in a room – full drama, for 4–7 musicians, durata appr 15 min

An international jury, consisting of representatives from the ensembles, among others, will select the three winning works.

The competition period runs from December 2, 2019 to March 2020.
