Christian Zacharias is back. The orchestra’s former principal guest conductor makes the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra appear the ideal Mozart orchestra.

They demonstrate that in his Piano Concerto No. 17, a pleasant little thing that the 18-year-old Mozart probably put together for his student Barbara Ployer. Like Mozart, Jean-Philippe Rameau was a piano virtuoso and a brilliant composer. His music for Louis XV’s Royal Opera has the splendour one can expect, as well as a touch of exoticism in the Orchestral Suite from the ballet “Les Indes galantes” (The Amorous Indes), inspired by a visit to Paris by Native Americans from Illinois..

Music with a scent of the theatre’s grease paint also awaits in Bizet’s characteristic pieces for the drama about the desirable Girl from Arles.
