Le tombeau de Couperin

Ravel’s tribute to the 18th century composer Francois Couperin: a Spanish-inspired prelude with wonderful woodwind solos and velvety strings, a both majestic and innocent prelude, a sweet but at the same time stormy minuet and a boisterous rondo finale with trumpet fanfares and catchy rhythms.

The Swedish Ballet in Paris, which shook up the city’s cultural life in 1920-1925, had a great success with its production of Le Tombeau de Couperin in 1920.
