You’ll be on the edge of your seat this afternoon, as some of the country’s most virtuoso young soloists perform with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Which of them will emerge as this year’s winner?! The concert is also livestreamed at GSOplay.

After four competitions, four young musicians aged 14-18 have been voted to this exciting final in the prestigious Pole Star Prize: Harald Edin double bass (Styrsö), Lukas Flink trombone (Malmö), Harry Dai Liang violin (Gothenburg) and Selma Sköld cello (Enskede).

Also participating is pianist Vilhelm Moqvist, 2021 winner of the Polar Star Prize.

About the Polar Star Prize

The Polar Star Prize is both a competition and course in music. During the autumn break, more than 70 course participants and contestants travel to Vänersborg to play as one in different ensembles and orchestras and (quite literally!) fine-tune their technique with the help of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra and The Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra.

Dozens of artists and teachers, all with extensive international experience, attend the gathering to teach and coach the participants. The young musicians hail from all over Sweden; the contestants are all between the ages of 14-18. Next time they return to Vänersborg will be the first week of January, when they will focus on competing with each other and prepare for their upcoming concerts.

During these competition days, a jury selects four finalists who will compete against each other during the eventual finals – a nerve-wracking event taking place right here, in the Gothenburg Concert Hall.
