Every year, young singers and musicians gather to put together a show, together with director and soloists of the highest class. This year they perform Karl Jenkin’s grand peace fair The Armed Man from 1999. All under the direction of Kim Phipps. During the autumn holidays every year, young singers and musicians meet in the Gothenburg Concert Hall to develop vocally and scenically together with professional singers and educators. The Final Fireworks is a concert in the mighty Great Hall.

Programme

Karl Jenkins (1944 - ) The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace Sir Karl Jenkins from Wales is one of the most performed composers of our time and has a background as a jazz musician. As a composer, he had his breakthrough in the 90s with the orchestral work Adiemus (originally written as an advertisement for an airline company). The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace is based on the Catholic Mass and an old medieval folk song called L'homme armé (the armed man). The work was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum in London to mark the turn of the millennium and was dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo War. The premiere was held in the Royal Albert Hall in 2000. Since then, the work has spread to many amateur choirs and orchestras worldwide. In his music, Jenkins mixes both ethnic and classical expressions with production methods associated with rock and pop. The soundscape varies from jazz to minimalism. His music has been used in several films and he has also won many awards for his commercial music. In 2015 Karl Jenkins was knighted and in 2016 he received the BASCA Gold Badge Award for his unique contribution to music.
