Welcome to an inspiring musical meeting! Here, children and young people from Gothenburg’s schools of the arts meet recently arrived young people from Dream Orchestra, and the musicians of University of Gothenburg Symphony, in one giant orchestra.

Together, they will create a unique context for learning, and not least a unique musical experience for audiences and participants in the joint orchestra. Perhaps they’ll be colleagues in the future…

Göteborgs Kulturskolor

Gothenburg’s schools of the arts are cultural meeting points for children and young people, and every week, thousands of young participants meet to create experiences together, and to lay the foundations for a meaningful future life. Through the training, Gothenburg’s schools of the arts contribute to creative meetings with a focus on musical, social and human development, in order to stimulate children and young people to take their place in an equal and sustainable Gothenburg.

El Sistema Sweden Dream Orchestra

El Sistema Sweden Dream Orchestra was founded in 2016 by El Sistema’s artistic leader Ron Davis Alvarez, with a handful of young boys from a home for refugees south of Gothenburg. One year later, the orchestra consists of just over 60 children and young people, most of them having arrived alone from Afghanistan, Syria, Iran, Eritrea and Albania. Dream Orchestra grows as the access to instruments grows, and the goal is to form a full size symphony orchestra.

The University of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra

The University of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra consists of students from the master’s programme of symphonic orchestral playing at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg. The orchestra has eight symphony projects and one opera project every school year, and students of the normal BA programme also participate in many of the projects. This is where the foundations for work as professional orchestra musicians in an international environment are laid. The master’s programme of symphonic orchestral playing is unique, and is run in collaboration with the Gothenburg Symphony and the Gothenburg Opera.
