VÄGUS AUTUMN CONCERT

Västra Götaland’s Youth Symphony Orchestra plays music by Beethoven, Ravel and Mendelssohn with unmistakeable passion and energy, conductor Simon Kim Phipps.

Event has already taken place

The Västra Götaland’s Youth Symphony Orchestra (VÄGUS) are experts at making classical music accessible to all. From famous compositions to majestic symphonies – VÄGUS performs it all with the same unmistakeable passion and energy that has become its trademark, led by conductor Simon Kim Phipps.

The concert begins in the Scottish archipelago of the Hebrides, where the composer Mendelssohn was in 1829. In a letter home to his sister, he wrote “In order for you to understand what an unusual impression the Hebrides have made on me, I send with the attached, which appeared in my mind during the visit here. ” What he sent home were the first ten bars of the beautifully dramatic piece we will experience this evening.

In Ravel’s Pavane for a Dead Princess, we rest in calm timbres in a piece of music that the composer described as a reminder of a princess’ slow dance.

When Beethoven’s Seventh Symphony takes place, the concert hall is filled with liveliness and joy. That Beethoven was deaf when he wrote the music is unbelievable.
