The opera composer Giuseppe Verdi had the power to write for voices like few others. With his vast experience and unique creativity, he had an insuperable palette of moods and expressions to work with in his music.

Much of the opera’s drama is also evident in the Requiem, which was written in memory of the writer Alessandro Manzoni. The whole piece, from the delightful Recordare (“Remember”) to the thunderous Dies irae (“Day of Wrath”), is portrayed in everything from the solos to the ensembles and of course the magnificent splendour of the choir.
