Otte Sköld (1894-1958) initially painted in a Cubist style but then switched to a more detailed method of presentation. His images of varietal and café environments are perhaps the ones most associated with him. Together with Åke Pernby, he created Otte Sköld’s painting school in 1929. Between 1938-42, Sköld was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, where he later also worked as director until 1950. During the years 1950-59, Sköld was director of the National Museum and during this time he became also the first director of the Moderna Museet 1958-60. Sköld is abundantly represented in most major museums in Sweden and the Nordic countries, but also in the collections of various museums in Europe.

ca 6,4 x 9,5 m

© Otte Sköld /BUS 2009.

Painted on damp lime plaster, which makes the picture very light-hardy and durable.
