The orchestral instruments The harp

With its many strings and shimmering sound, the harp has a voice all its own in the orchestra. Discover this ancient instrument, where fingers and pedals work together to create everything from delicate sounds to sweeping chords.

The harp is a string instrument that has existed since ancient times. It is played by plucking the strings, usually with both hands. The harp consists of a frame and soundbox with a large number of strings. The lower strings are made of metal, while the higher ones are made of gut or nylon. The pedals allow the harpist to play in all keys.
