A violin is a string instrument played with a bow. Since the 17th or 18th century, it has been one of the most widely played musical instruments, both in classical music and Swedish folk music.
Violin strings were once made from animal gut, but today they are usually made from metal. Sound is produced by drawing the bow across the strings. The bow is made of wood and horsehair, which is tightened using a screw mechanism in the part known as the “frog”.
Our orchestra has 37 violinists, divided into two sections: first and second violins.
