Amira Medunjanin is one of the world’s foremost sevdah singers and one of the most acclaimed artists from the Balkans. Born and raised in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, she has become renowned for her unique ability to breathe new life into traditional songs and bring the music of sevdah to international audiences.
Through collaborations with distinguished musicians around the world, she has established herself as one of the leading ambassadors of the Bosnian musical tradition. Her debut album Rosa was met with critical acclaim and was followed by releases such as Amira Live, Zumra, Amulette, Silk & Stone and For Him and Her.
Music journalist and author Garth Cartwright has described her as “Bosnia’s Billie Holiday”. The comparison reflects her ability to unite tradition and innovation within a musical form that is several centuries old.
