What could be more beautiful than a violin concerto by Brahms? A double concerto with violin by Brahms, of course. This evening, Gothenburg’s own supernova Ava Bahari is accompanied by cellist Andreas Brantelid. Together with conductor Pekka Kuusisto, they constitute a spectacular trio that is taking Romantic music into the future.
Pianist and composer Louise Farrenc was another supernova of nineteenth-century Paris. She composed three irresistible symphonies, charming chamber music and fashionable piano pieces that later fell into obscurity. She has been rediscovered in recent years and several recordings have been made of her lush music. 2025 marks the 150-year-anniversary of Farrenc’s death.
