Chalmers Baroque ensemble presents a jubilee concert worthy of its age! Where custom might have demanded an ostentatious retrospection we instead find a newly written work envisioning the distant future of the ensemble, scored by the ensemble's own Maestro Pontus Bertling.
Information from Chalmers Barockensemble:
When Chalmers Baroque Ensemble was founded in 1956 it was a breath of fresh air, and, as nothing has changed since then, this holds true to this day. The ensemble is baroque in every sense of the word, though its repertoire contains both Bach, Byrd, Brahms, Bartók, and Backstreet Boys (or rather, the Ensembles own brass quintet, BachBeat Boys). The Baroque Ensemble’s deep and varied sound is formed by fully adequate instruments such as Telephonium, Bog horn, and Pherrofone, which are enriched by a full symphonic setting.
In the opus principale it is the Pherrofone which is examined and explained. A monastic order has been created around the study and preservation of the Baroque Ensemble’s ancient carillon, and we follow a novice in their hurried schooling. Which higher purpose does the order serve, and what knowledge does the Pherrofone keep? In prophetic theater we discover the Baroque Ensemble’s legacy to the accompaniment of a newly written piece by the Baroque Ensemble’s own letter B composer: Pontus Bertling!
Since it’s sexagennial anniversary Bertling has led the Ensemble creatively and musically, writing countless arrangements, compositions, and medleys. For this, and his role as rehearsal leader and conductor, it is without hesitation we dub him: Maestro!
