The Prelude and Isolde’s Love Death from Wagner’s opera Tristan and Isolde may be among the most amorous and erotic music ever written, intense to the point that it, in its ecstatic state, approaches death.

In this concert, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra has paired Wagner with Strauss, showing with clever programming how the splendour of late romanticism can be combined with classically inspired works. The orchestra has also – tongue-in-cheek – borrowed an idea that was popular 100 years ago: ending the concert with an overture!

The orchestra is joined by master oboist François Leleux and conductor Nathalie Stutzmann, who celebrated a great success with Handel’s Messiah in Gothenburg last season.
