A world premiere by composer Ming Tsao that gives off sparks! The electric guitar is in focus, backed by the entire Gothenburg Symphony. Conductor Brad Lubman also hands us Stravinsky’s famous suite from The Firebird and music from Star Wars.
Experience the unusual presentation of a classical concert for orchestra and electric guitar. As soloist, we hear guitar virtuoso Magnus Andersson. Composer Ming Tsao is from the US and has also been active in Gothenburg. His music dissolves the symphonic form, allowing sounds to transport the audience to a free space in which they can let their thoughts wander.
Then we travel to a galaxy far, far away in Williams’ wonderful film score from Star Wars! Take the opportunity to experience the space journey with a live orchestra in the Great Hall. The powerful and solemn atmosphere is built up by American Aaron Copland’s classic Fanfare for the Common Man.
After the intermission, we are cast into the famous suite from The Firebird. Composer Igor Stravinsky had just taken the western world by storm when, in 1910, he composed the first of several legendary ballets. Here, he combines his orchestral sorcery with Russian folk songs and fairy tales. The result is a dazzling atmosphere in the story of the evil Koschei and the captive princesses, who are finally freed by the mesmerising Firebird. Prepare for one of the great finales of music history.
Have a seat in the Great Hall an hour before the concert and let the introduction open the door to the stories behind the works, facts about the composers and personal reflections. The introduction is included in your ticket, lasts about 30 minutes and has free seating in the hall.
