Information from Farhang Association:

From Ferdowsi’s mighty epic Shahnameh, the story of Kay Khosrow emerges – a story of grief and justice, of power and responsibility, and of man’s longing for a freedom beyond the crown. With roots in the ancient Persian storytelling tradition of Naqqali, the audience is taken into Kay Khosrow’s world. Music, storytelling and dance are woven together and follow his path from his father’s tragic fate and his own ascension to the throne to the fight for justice after the murder of the legendary prince Siyavash. But Kay Khosrow’s real struggle does not only take place on the battlefield. Behind the victories and the power of the king, a deeper question emerges: What remains when revenge is complete and power can no longer give man what he seeks?
At the decisive moment of the story, Kay Khosrow chooses a different path. He leaves the crown and worldly power behind him and walks towards the unknown – towards the stillness, wisdom and an inner freedom that cannot be conquered with the sword.
On stage, the sound world of Persian music, the living storytelling of the Naqqalen and the wordless poetry of dance meet. Tones, words and movements carry the story between the earthly and the spiritual, between sorrow and hope, between battle and stillness. The performance is based on an idea and musical vision by the tanbur player and composer Keivan Kianian. In his music, the ancient memory of the Persian storytelling tradition meets our contemporary questions about power, responsibility, peace and human dignity. Kay Khosrow’s path is more than the story of a king. It is a journey from sorrow to reconciliation, from power to wisdom, from the crown to freedom. A timeless story about man’s search for truth – and the courage to leave power behind to find something greater.
