The composer Daniel Bjarnason has told us the story of the American flags erected on the moon, how they slowly turned white in the extreme temperature changes and UV radiation. It’s a picture as suggestive as the one given by composer Laura Schwendinger about her piece; inspired by the moonlight over the Como lake, one of Italy’s largest lakes with the Dolomites on one side and the Alps on the other.

The moon also follows the lovers in Schönberg’s Verklärte Nacht, and transforms worries and anxiety to light and warmth. Piazzolla’s atmospheric music is a companion through oblivion and passage of seasons, well suited to accompany both moon and sun.

Part of Rymdveckan (Space Week)

It’s 50 years since the first landing on the moon. This is highlighted in the West of Sweden on 14-22 September with a wide programme for all ages about the importance of space in innovation, inspiration, science, industry, research, environment, sustainability, public welfare, culture, arts and creativity.
