Sparkling sounds of jazz and musicals as superb trombone player Nils Landgren and his band join the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Original compositions are woven together with Bernstein’s rich trove of songs for a concert of warmth and togetherness.
With a red trombone and a golden voice, Nisse Landgren is a long-time interpreter of Leonard Bernstein’s music. And now it is finally happening on the stage of the Concert Hall. In addition to music from the classic musical West Side Story, Landgren’s ensemble, with the expressive vocalist Ida Sand at the front, also present songs from On the Town, and the charged Mass.
We also hear a palette of other songs here by Kurt Weill, Cat Stevens, Joe Sample and Nils Landgren himself. They are all on the freshly released album Love of My Life, and as on the 2016 Bernstein tribute Some Other Time, the arrangements are by American composer Vince Mendoza. The reviews say: “Heavenly!”
Landgren’s supergroup includes none other than Lars Danielsson on bass, Joel Lyssarides on piano and Robert Ikiz on drums. The Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra is led by Sara Trobäck and Mårten Larsson. We promise that it will be hard to sit still.
Don’t miss Kulturnatta (Culture Night) in our foyer after the concert, with more music and mingling.
“Landgren’s humble joy and energy are contagious. And what notes his phenomenal air flow creates, both when singing and on the trombone – soft, sincere and masterful.” Lira Magazine
