Göteborgs Konserthus New World/Old World

Sweden’s best big band, the Bohuslän Big Band, meets the University of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra under the direction of legendary conductor and arranger Vince Mendoza.

The concert offers original music written by Mendoza for symphony orchestra and big band – beautiful and swinging jazz melodies with rich and imaginative orchestrations. But that’s not all! You will also hear future composers and arrangers who, in the spring of 2024, have written new music under the guidance of Mendoza. Don’t miss the opportunity to be the first to hear several innovative works following the theme “New World/Old World” by composers Jakob Evert, Maryam Javidmehr, Alexandros Koutsogiannis, Alma Stenson and Daniel Quigley.

For several years, the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg has had a successful collaboration with the Bohuslän Big Band. In a joint venture, the University of Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Bohuslän Big Band come together for the first time for a unique collaboration under the leadership of conductor and arranger Vince Mendoza.

The students have been selected by Vince Mendoza through a composition competition arranged by the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg.
