Electroacoustic fusion jazz and refined funk with a hint of R&B and post-bop.
With over 40 years behind them, they are still going strong with finely tuned funk, seasoned with R&B and post-bop as a foundation. But Yellowjackets also have their sights set on the future, as they constantly seek out new routes for their signature electroacoustic fusion jazz.
They formed as a backing band for guitarist Robben Ford, but immediately began their own luminous career on the side. Saxophonist Bob Mintzer has said time and again that this band has the most flexible musicians he’s ever worked with. No matter the setting or style, Yellowjackets will get you where you’re going!
Over the years, star musicians such as fusion guitarist Mike Stern, bassist Jimmy Haslip and drummer Peter Erskine have been part of this musical journey of discovery. In addition to Bob Mintzer, another member from the early years – and 25 albums later – is keyboard player Russell Ferrante.
Today, Yellowjackets are completed with bassist Dane Alderson and drummer Will Kennedy. Driven by a desire for innovation, this impressive ensemble never rests on their laurels.
