Hear phenomenal organist Anna Lapwood with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. We move from divine mysteries to cosmic melodies and the world of film in music by Richter, Zimmer, Arakelyan and Saint-Saëns.
A grand concert awaits, where the powerful sound of the organ meets the evocative world of film. The immeasurably popular organist Anna Lapwood performs with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and children’s choir under the baton of André de Ridder in a programme that shifts among mysticism, spirituality and cosmic perspectives.
Music by Hans Zimmer, Kristina Arakelyan, Max Richter and Saint-Saëns unites monumental power with meditative stillness. Hans Zimmer’s score from The Da Vinci Code and the symphonic suite from Interstellar set the tone for the concert. This is a soundscape with time, faith and space at the centre. Kristina Arakelyan’s exciting Toccata, composed specifically for Lapwood, gives the organ a masterful and rhythmically charged soloist role.
In Max Richter’s Cosmology, also composed specifically for Lapwood, we encounter meditative stillness in slow, undulating movements. Often used in films, Max Richter’s music comes straight from the heart. His compositions feel expansive, and simultaneously intimate and personal.
The finale is Saint-Saëns’ Symphony No. 3, in which organ, choir and orchestra are united by one of the most monumental works of the Romantic period. This organ symphony is also familiar from the world of film, in the adventures of “Babe” (1995).
We are able to hear Max Richter and Anna Lapwood in this concert thanks to the generous support of the Sten A. Olsson Foundation.
