Stenhammar: Piano Concerto No 2

Experience Wilhelm Stenhammar’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Herbert Blomstedt and featuring pianist Martin Sturfält as soloist. The concert was recorded at Gothenburg Concert Hall in October 2016.

Stenhammar began composing his second piano concerto in 1904, but it was not until 1907 that the work was completed. His work on the concerto took him from Kristiania via Saltsjöbaden to Florence, where he finally finished the piece.

The world premiere took place on 15 April 1908, with Zelmica Asplund as soloist and the Gothenburg Orchestral Society conducted by the composer himself. The concerto was met with a very positive reception.
