The doyen is back. Sweden’s internationally leading and most merited conductor can look forward to his 90th birthday in 2017.

Musically, he’s as alert and spry as ever, which was made eminently clear at his latest visit. Magnus Haglund wrote, in the Göteborgs-Posten newspaper: “Experiencing Blomstedt’s guest appearance in Gothenburg’s Concert Hall is truly special. The music is reborn and given further life through the many connections backwards and forwards in time.” The programme is typically Blomstedt; Stenhammar’s Second Piano Concerto with Martin Sturfält, and Beethoven’s “Pastoral Symphony”.
