Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra finishes the year in the strongest way possible with Johannes Brahms’ Requiem – one of the most magnificent works of classical music. Soprano is international star Christina Nilsson and conductor is Marie Jacquot.
Take this chance to hear the new international star, Swedish soprano Christina Nilsson, in Johannes Brahms’ masterpiece A German Requiem. Together with baritone soloist Christoph Pohl, the Gothenburg Symphony Choir and the orchestra, conductor Marie Jacquot takes us to a place of solace, hope and togetherness.
It took nearly ten years for Johannes Brahms to complete A German Requiem. The work was finished in 1868, three years after the death of his mother. It was also his major breakthrough. This is not a typical religious funeral mass for the dead. Rather, Brahms presents a comforting perspective for the living.
Christina Nilsson’s breakthrough came with her performance as Aida at the Royal Swedish Opera in 2018. Since then, she has sung at the world’s major opera houses. Last year she was appointed as court singer. And for the second time this year, we get to hear popular French conductor Marie Jacquot, chief conductor of the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. Together, they create a ceremonial and consoling evening for the Christmas season.
Have a seat in the Great Hall an hour before the concert and let the introduction open the door to the stories behind the works, facts about the composers and personal reflections. The introduction is included in your ticket, lasts about 30 minutes and has free seating in the hall.
