Bring someone you like and celebrate the spring with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra!
The soprano Kathrin Lorenzen is one of the hottest on the Swedish singing scene right now. She won the Soloist Prize in January 2024 after a live final concert in the Berwaldhallen. In tough competition, she performed music by J S Bach, Olivier Messiaen and Gustav Mahler that made the jury’s heart melt.
Now she makes her debut in Gothenburg’s Konserthus in Messiaen’s Poèmes pour Mi – a spiritual song cycle that the composer dedicated to his wife. Here he explores all the joy, struggle and challenge that can be found in a couple’s relationship, equipped with his usual arsenal of rhythms and magical sounds. The nine poetic songs call for a dramatic soprano at the height of her ability.
The concert is rounded off with Schubert’s magnificent Symphony No. 9. This grand piece was never performed during Franz Schubert’s short life. In hindsight, it received high praise: “The instruments are like human voices!” (Robert Schumann). Conductor is the young and promising British talent Joel Sandelson, winner of the Karajan Prize for Young Conductors in 2021.

Kathrin Lorenzen is from Germany and lives in Stockholm where she is a soprano in the Swedish Radio Choir. As a soloist, she has won first prize and the audience prize at the international Telemann competition in Magdeburg in 2023 and was a finalist in the Voice of the Sea on Åland that same year.
“With a captivating stage presence and outstanding musicality, our winner leaves no jury member unmoved.”
