Norayr Kartashyan and his sextet Menua play traditional Armenian instruments, including new manufactured hybrids. Duduk, with its flute-like tone, is the most famous. Blul, shvi, pku and parkapzuk are the Armenian names of the other woodwinds. With expressive arrangements, interpretations of the country’s rural music are made. The compositions bloom gently, full of timeless beauty and warmth.
Norayr Kartashyan has collaborated with several Armenian artists and bands. He is also an instrument builder and teacher and sees it as his main task to revive Armenian music and pass it on to the next generation.
