An evening of sparkling intensity and the classic Eroica Symphony’s monumental power. Under the baton of Finnish conductor Jukka-Pekka Saraste, we encounter two eras – Romantic and Modern – in an evening of energy and playful brilliance.

Today, Prokofiev is perhaps best known for the dramatic music from Romeo and Juliet. In the twentieth century, the Russian composer was one of the biggest and most famous. Piano Concerto No. 5 is a flickering mosaic of rhythmic impulses and unexpected turns. Few Swedish artists have an international career as comprehensive as pianist Peter Jablonski – with his elegant and powerful playing, the five short movements of the piano concerto are filled with luminosity.

After the intermission, the era moves from Modernism to Beethoven’s classic Eroica. The symphony’s dramatic range, emotional depth and revolutionary attitude paved the way for the Romantic era. Beethoven called his third symphony “bigger than all those before it.” We will listen and hear echoes of history.

As starter, we hear an exciting collage by Finnish composer Magnus Lindberg. Jubilees consists of several small pieces, once written as a birthday present.
