Event has already taken place. We honor the Bosnian experience of war, genocide, and cultural erasure, while celebrating the living culture that has endured and continues to flourish.
Information from NBV Väst:
Memory, resistance, and culture
Three decades have passed since the genocide in Srebrenica.
This special program commemorates both history and the future through three powerful forms of expression:
Speech: Amor Mašović
Drama: Hasija Borić
Traditional song: Damir Galijašević and Melika Klisura
This is an artistic and deeply moving experience that weaves together memory and resilience. Carefully curated, the program brings history, remembrance, and culture into a completely new form of expression – never before presented in this way.
We believe in the power of art to confront difficult truths and elevate the Bosnian story to new levels of understanding and engagement.
Parts of the performance will be in Swedish.
PROGRAM
“Traces of Evil” – Amor Mašović
A powerful keynote by Amor Mašović, Director of the Center for the Identification of Genocide Victims. With over three decades of experience, he shares insights on the painful journey from genocide to truth and justice. His words remind us of the importance of never forgetting – and of honoring the lost as the foundation for our shared future.
“The Awakening” – A Dramatic Performance by Hasija Borić
Renowned Bosnian actress Hasija Borić delivers a striking, emotionally charged monologue on the war and genocide in Srebrenica. Her performance sheds light on: the struggle for survival, the weight of loss, the strength of dreams, the journey back to life – both body and soul.
“Sevdalinka” – Storytelling and Song
A tribute to the resilience of Bosnia’s cultural heritage, and its survival through cultural destruction. At the heart of this performance is Sevdalinka, the traditional song form now listed as UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage. Damir Galijašević (storyteller, accordionist) takes us deep into the soul of Sevdalinka – its history, meaning, and enduring place in Bosnian identity. Accompanied by the expressive voice of Melika Klisura, the performance shows how tradition not only survives but flourishes in new landscapes.
