Event has already taken place. Get a firm grip on Gothenburg’s cultural scene! This evening’s conversation explores the idea of cultivating your own garden. Guests are Lydia Sandgren, author and psychologist, and Karl Sundström, singer in Terra. The discussion is led by Johan Hilton, Head of Culture at Göteborgs-Posten.
A New Tone – A New Thought. At the Concert Hall’s Culture Evenings we take a firm grip on Gothenburg’s cultural life. With fascinating guests and challenging ideas, we look beyond boundaries. Come and be part of it. The conversation (in Swedish) is led by Johan Hilton, author and Culture Editor at Göteborgs-Posten, and is being recorded for publication as a podcast.
“She was Magasinet and I was Sejdeln.” Tonight’s conversation centres on Gothenburgers interpreting Gothenburg. What is it like to draw inspiration from your home city. What is it like to identify with it? Our panel wrestles with their feelings for Bengans, Hisingen, 7:ans hot-dog stand, the big hole at Korsvägen, Håkan and Leila K, asking whether Gothenburg has become easier or harder to capture.
What has Gothenburg meant for their artistic work? What resistance does it offer, and can that resistance itself become a driving force? And is getting your name on a tram enough to die happy?
Joining the discussion is Lydia Sandgren, author and psychologist, whose 2020 debut novel Samlade verk offered a vivid portrait of Gothenburg. Her 2025 novel Artens överlevnad also digs deep into the fertile ground as rich and gritty as the gravel on Heden. We also meet Karl Sundström, singer of the Gothenburg band Terra, who has taken indie Sweden by storm since their debut album Terrarism from 2016. With Gothenburg as their base, Karl Sundström describes the band’s theme as an attempt to give the ugly and the beautiful about the same amount of space. Not to embellish too much; to always have one foot in reality and the other in some kind of dream world.
Culture Evenings are presented by the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with Göteborgs-Posten and will be published as a podcast.
