Full of discovery and surprises!

Now you have the chance to enjoy chamber music with the harp in focus – the beautiful instrument that holds everything from romantic to modern sounds. For three days in May, Gothenburg Concert Hall is occupied by some of the world’s foremost harpists. Names such as Ernestine Stoop, Gwyneth Wentink and Sivan Magen have established themselves as soloists on the main stages. Now they unite in joint chamber concerts full of discovery and surprises, fed with both classical masterpieces and newly written experimental music.

As the artistic director of this tribute to the harp, we see the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra’s own harpist Erik Groenestein-Hendriks. In connection with the festival, there are also workshops and masterclasses for musicians.

The Harp Festival 2023 opens with the Gothenburg Symphony’s big spring concert on Wednesday 17 May under the direction of Sir John Eliot Gardiner. As a soloist, we hear Gwyneth Wentink in Ginastera’s sparkling harp concerto. After the concert, we invite you to an opening mingle in the Götaplats foyer to the tunes of Swedish fiddler and harpist Erik Ask-Upmark.

Thursday 18 and Friday 19 May, exciting harp concerts follow, with music from Bach to Anna Thorvaldsdottír, via Debussy and Smetana. Here you get the chance to hear both stars of the future and well renowed world soloists. You are welcome to enjoy as many concerts as you can. And try playing the harp when different models are displayed in the foyer of Stenhammarsalen!
