Beethoven: Symphony No 2

The esteemed conductor Herbert Blomstedt is celebrated for his complete recordings of Beethoven’s symphonies. The Swedish legend now looks back on a career of over 70 years as conductor of the world’s foremost orchestras. A work that began with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra already in 1953.

During the time Beethoven’s Second Symphony was being created, he suffered from the hearing loss that would later make him completely deaf, but the melancholy is not noticeable in the piece, which is described as bright and cheerful.
