Rachmaninoff: Piano Concerto No. 2
Longing and romance are present in Rachmaninoff’s second piano concerto. This piece is known to history for its moving melodies and virtuosic playing. Rachmaninoff himself became known as one of the best pianists of his time. The piece was later subjected to one of the biggest song thefts in music history, when pop singer Eric Carmen stole the second movement for his power ballad “All by myself” in 1975. Soloist is Norwegian pianist Christian Ihle Hadland, for several years one of the neighboring country’s most famous stars in the classical world.
Recorded for GSOplay in Gothenburg Concert Hall in April 2025.
