Two global stars take the stage when the Swedish Chamber Orchestra perform. Janine Jansen presents Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1 before Martin Fröst leads the orchestra in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1.
The Swedish Chamber Orchestra from Örebro perform in the Great Hall with conductor Martin Fröst. As a clarinettist, he pushes the boundaries and in addition to the standard repertoire, he plays Baroque music, klezmer and tango. He carries traditions while setting new trends, and has combined music with dance and pantomime.
Tonight, Fröst leads the orchestra in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 1, the youthful work that premiered at the turn of the century before last – already demonstrating a sense of innovation and new ideas.
Dutch violinist Janine Jansen is the evening’s soloist, acclaimed for her dazzling technique, sensitive playing and stage presence. She has been among the top stars of violin since her debut in London 24 years ago. During her career, she has established long-term collaborations with orchestras and conductors alike, including Fröst.
The evening begins with Elfrida Andrée’s romantic Concert Overture, followed by Max Bruch’s Violin Concerto No. 1. It is among the most loved in music history and is dedicated to star violinist Joseph Joachim, “with respect,” as it says on the original score.
Have a seat in the Great Hall an hour before the concert and let the introduction open the door to the stories behind the works, facts about the composers and personal reflections. The introduction is included in your ticket, lasts about 30 minutes and has free seating in the hall. Sit wherever suits you – a smooth start to the concert experience.
