Side by Side 2022: Closing Concert

The international music camp Side by Side by El Sistema concludes with a classical concert in Stora Salen where the camp’s most advanced participants show off their skills side by side with Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra.

The participants from ADVANCED and PRE-ADVANCED ORCHESTRA form the musical pinnacle of Side by Side and together with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra’s Vocal Ensemble, they offer a high-class musical experience. All under the direction of conductors Emil Eliasson and Daniela Muscaa.

The concert offers a grand symphonic repertoire, with both Tchaikovsky, Grieg and Sibelius on the repertoire, but also Ethel Smythe’s powerful Overture from The Wreckers, and some parts of Ida Moberg’s suite for orchestra, which is very rarely performed for audiences. In addition to this there will also be excerpts from Karl Jenkin’s Mass for Peace, for choir and orchestra together.

Side by Side is organized by Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra and is an important part of Gothenburg’s 400th anniversary celebration. For a few splendid June days every year, young people from around the world gather to sing and play orchestral music together, side by side with professional musicians. The camp promotes classical music while counteracting segregation in all its forms and building bridges between people, cultures, and continents.
