Santtu-Matias Rouvali interprets Sibelius in his own distinctive way – with respect for the musical notation, but also completely open to new and fascinating possibilities. This could also be said of Hélène Grimaud, who with steadfast determination brings the utmost gravity to her role as an artist.

When the two exploratory musicians collaborate on Beethoven’s Fourth Piano Concerto – which really teases and plays with the idea of the individual and the collective – the conditions are created for an extraordinary artistically charged performance. And as a fantastic start to the evening: Richard Strauss’s sweeping and flourishing orchestral suite from Der Rosenkavalier.

Hélène Grimaud is Artist in Residence at the Gothenburg Symphony 2017-2018 and Santtu-Matias Rouvali the orchestra’s new Chief Conductor.
