That Claude Debussy also wrote beautiful music for the harp is no coincidence. During impressionism in France in the 1800s the concert harp took on its modern form. César Franck, Debussy and Fauré were all quick to try the challenging and beautiful new technique of gilded forms. The sonata for harp trio that we now hear is a classic in harp music. It bears traces of Debussy’s colorful, early orchestral works with oriental influences.

Hand in hand with Debussy’s spirit goes Richard Rijnvos, a Dutch composer born in 1964. We hear his steaming fresh piece for viola, flute and harp that mirrors a sonata by Debussy with the same instrumentation. Rijnvo’s piece is dedicated to harpist Ernestine Stoop, leading Dutch harpist and professor in The Hague whom we now have the pleasure of welcoming to the Gothenburg Concert Hall.
