Göteborgs Konserthus Malene Mortensen – More than Jazz

At the age of 19 she represented Denmark in the Eurovision Song Contest. Shortly thereafter she began collaborating with jazz greats such as Chris Potter, Mike Stern and Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen. There is good reason that Malene Mortensen is called both a jazz and pop singer.

With her unique ability to switch expressions and move freely between genres, she is able to reach both the jazz and pop audience, much like a Nordic version of Norah Jones. On one side of her repertoire she has soulfully fresh and varied arrangements of jazz standards, like a peaceful and empathetic “I’ve Got a Date with a Dream”, a sensitive “At Last” and an imaginative post-bop “Take Five”. In her own songs, on the other hand, she finds scope for the captivating and entertaining pop singer that she also is.
