Thrilling notes from Rachmaninov and Rossini and the best of French Romanticism with Widor. David Higgs plays some of the organ world's top show numbers.
“I wish I had never written it!” The prelude in C sharp minor was such a success that the incomparably skilled pianist Sergei Rachmaninov got tired of his work. We don’t. In this organ concert, we get to hear some of the organ world’s top show numbers interspersed with finely tuned hymns dedicated to the changes of autumn.
The in-demand American virtuoso David Higgs is once again a guest at Gothenburg’s International Organ Festival. To conclude, we hear Charles-Marie Widor’s Organ Symphony No. 6, which was written for a celebratory concert at the Trocadéro in Paris. A showcase of all that the mighty romantic French organs had to offer.
