Conductor and oboist François Leleux is the artistic director of the Kammerakademie Potsdam from the 2025-2026 season. He has previously featured as Artistic Partner of Camerata Salzburg, Artist-in-Association with Orchestre de Chambre de Paris, and Artist-in-Residence with orchestras such as hr-Sinfonieorchester, Orchestre Philharmonique de Strasbourg, Berner Symphonieorchester, Norwegian Chamber Orchestra, and Orquesta Sinfónica de Tenerife. Highlights of the 2025-2026 season include appearances with the Bamberger Symphoniker, the Dresden Philharmonic, the Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, the Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, the Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias, the National Taiwan Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonia Lahti, the Staatsorchester Hamburg and the Orchestre Métropolitain de Montréal. As a dedicated chamber musician, he performs worldwide with his long-time concert partners Lisa Batiashvili, Eric Le Sage and Emmanuel Strosser, as well as with his acclaimed woodwind sextet Les Vents Français, which toured Germany, Switzerland, Spain and Japan in 2024-2025. His recordings include Bienvenue en France with Emmanuel Strosser for Warner Classics, Bizet and Gounod with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra (Linn), and the award-winning Hummel and Haydn with the Munich Chamber Orchestra. Other releases include Bach with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, Mozart with the Camerata Salzburg, and Strauss Oboe Concerto with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra under Daniel Harding. He most recently guested at the Gothenburg Concert Hall in a chamber concert in 2020.

Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) Petrushka (1911) The Shrovetide Fair Petrushka's Room The Moor's Room Towards evening: The Fair Petrushka, which is an example of Stravinsky's feeling for Russian folklore, actually comes from Stravinsky's first years as a composer. The young law student, who took private lessons in orchestration, had caught the eye of ballet impresario Diaghilev after some orchestral pieces performed back home in Russia. Djagilev was looking for something musically new and interesting. Paris critics liked the Russian ballet's inventive decor and choreography, but found the music boring. After Stravinsky's Rite of Spring, no critics wrote that anymore. But this was several years ahead, first Diaghilev lured Stravinsky to France. The ballet The Firebird was Stravinsky's definitive breakthrough and perhaps the work that made him truly believe in his chosen profession. Ballet number two, Petrushka, became as popular as the Firebird. Petrushka is about three dolls that appear in Russian markets and the music is as full of color and whimsy as you can imagine such a market could be. The amazing dancer Nijinsky played the lead role at the Théâtre du Châtelet on June 13, 1911. Over 30 years later, in 1947, Stravinsky made a new version in the United States with some adaptations, most likely because he did not have the copyright to his earlier version and had to rewrite it to generate income when the work was performed. I'm probably not alone in thinking that the music for Petrushka is among the most beautiful things Stravinsky wrote. Time and time again, the music evokes smiles. Here there are carousels, love, positivity, romance, slapstick. Close your eyes, and both scents and images come to mind.

Since the 2019-2020 season, Barbara Hannigan is Principal guest conductor. We are also a proud partner of Barbara Hannigan's Equilibrium mentoring program focusing on young singers at the start of their careers. The title Principal Guest Conductor is shared by Pekka Kuusisto from 2025. Wilhelm Stenhammar was the orchestra's chief conductor from 1907 to 1922. He gave the orchestra a strong Nordic profile and invited colleagues Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius to the orchestra. Under the direction of conductor Neeme Järvi from 1982-2004, the orchestra made a series of international tours as well as a hundred disc recordings and established themselves among Europe's leading orchestras. In 1996, the Swedish Riksdag appointed the Gothenburg Symphony as Sweden's National Orchestra. In recent decades, the orchestra has had prominent chief conductors such as Santtu-Matias Rouvali, Mario Venzago and Gustavo Dudamel, following Kent Nagano as Principal Guest conductor. Anna-Karin Larsson is CEO and artistic director, Gustavo Dudamel honorary conductor and Neeme Järvi chief conductor emeritus. The orchestra's owner is the Västra Götaland Region.
