Ravel wrote the piano duet Ma mère l’oye 1908-1910 for his artist friend Cyprien Godebski’s two children. The music would shape the stories as they were experienced by a child’s open, innocent mind and living imagination.

Enchanted worlds where we get to meet Beauty and the Beast, Sleeping Beauty and the Little Tumble. Ravel’s orchestral version is a marvel of timbres and dynamic variation; a combination of purity and richness where nothing seems to be lacking or is superfluous.
