Gubaidulina: Pari e Dispari
“Even and uneven” would be an appropriate translation of this piece. Composer Sofia Gubaidulina (1931-2025) was educated in Soviet Union and was from the 1990’s resident in Hamburg. Her spiritual and mystic interests were hardly viable in the communist Soviet Union, but her friend and colleague Shostakovich encouraged her to go her own way. For several decades she has been internationally established as a significant composer and in 2002 she was awarded Polar Music Prize.
She visited Gothenburg in 2008 for the world première of her percussion concerto Glorious Percussion, which was a great success. In Pari e Dispari, we carefully step into the enchanted world of Gubaidulina, where living rhythms and exotic sounds pass by so close you can almost touch them. Recorded in Gothenburg Concert Hall i January 2021.
