Pohjola’s Daughter

In the symphonic fantasy Pohjola’s Daughter, Sibelius interprets national epic Kalevala and hero Väinämöinen who, while travelling from the cold country of Pohjola, sees a beautiful girl in the sky spin a golden yarn on her spinning wheel.

Sibelius has charged his musical imagination with plenty of intensity and bright colours, well matched by the sounds of the Gothenburg Symphony and soprano Anu Komsi.

Participants:

Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra

Santtu-Matias Rouvali, conductor

Anu Komsi, soprano

Recorded for GSOplay 26/9-2019.
