Telemann’s Water Music

Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) was the most productive composer of his time – he wrote more music than Bach and Handel together!

And he was also successful as music director in Hamburg. The original title of the suite is “Hamburger Ebb’ und Fluth” and the music was written for the city’s admiralty when it celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1723. The work pays homage to gods in Greek and Roman mythology, among them the sea god Neptune and the friendly west wind god Zephyr. Baroque Academy Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra performs this surging music under the direction of artistic leader Stefano Veggetti.
