Göteborgs Symfoniker

Meet the hornist Alec Frank-Gemmill

Alec Frank-Gemmill was born in 1985 in the United Kingdom and is today the principal hornist of the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. In this interview, you can hear him talk about Odin Ensemble. The group, which consists of friends and colleagues, was formed last year during the pandemic and performs on instruments from the early 1900s.

“I think the Odin ensemble is unique because we´re not trying to do something authentic. We’re definitely not a modern orchestra, we’re also not presenting pure chamber music or orchestra music. So we are somewhere in between all the different scenes. We´re trying to do something that combines all these different musical aspects that makes us come together rather than picking one way of doing something.”
