That feeling of euphoria that you get when you’ve been part of something unique and magnificent. We want all festival visitors to experience that, and carry it with them when they leave, as a very special memory. Because Point Music Festival is special.
Never before have we had such a high-class, extensive and multifaceted programme in such a concentrated form. Throughout the festival, 23-26 May 2019, the Gothenburg Concert Hall will be transformed.
Point Music Festival is conducted with the support of the Sten A Olsson foundation for Research and Culture.
Four days of pure magic
With sound, lighting and design, we’ll create an atmosphere where anything can happen. An atmosphere where music, dance, performing art and other art forms meet in new, unexpected ways, sweeping the audience into an adventure.
The leitmotif of the festival is a number of powerful stories about being human, and about life itself, often told by female voices. Four festival days, four world premières, three orchestras, two club nights, a film screening, and some ten concerts…
Point Music Festival takes place on truly hallowed ground. The Gothenburg Concert Hall at Götaplatsen has attracted music lovers since 1935. Stora salen is a grand performance space, renowned for its acoustics. The more intimate Stenhammarsalen is known for its beautiful wooden decor.
Nils Einar Eriksson, the architect who designed the concert hall, wanted to create a place for everybody, with music at its centre. The result was a building that with its clean functionalism and beautiful natural materials fascinates visitors to this day.
Music will be played not just on stage during Point Music Festival, but in the whole building.
In the cloakrooms, the foyers, the restaurant, the bars – practically everywhere. Patricia Kopatchinskaja, Anna Thorvaldsdóttir, Santtu-Matias Rouvali and Gothenburg Symphony will be there, as will Bach, Strauss, Beethoven, and a few others. How about you?
