Amy Beach was a pioneering American composer who made a name in the late 19th century, and her music was performed by the famous Boston Symphony Orchestra.
Her romance for cello and piano was so much liked at the 1893 première that the audience wanted to hear it again! For the deeply religious Estonian Arvo Pärt, music is a spiritual expression that touches people strongly all around the world. His mesmerising music goes right to the heart, both in Fratres (the priory brothers) and the illusory Spiegel im Spiegel.
